Within Technology and Global Operations, Strategic Planning and Performance Management supports our teams to effectively drive digital transformation and proactively understand and manage our performance.To do this we work across our transformation to:

  • Accurately report on status against our critical goals

  • Support effective governance and drive decision-making (particularly working with the Chief Technology & Operations Officer and his leadership team)

  • Understand and help manage the link between delivery activity and financial and operational performance

  • Effectively partner and communicate with representatives across global teams (including partners in HR, Finance, the Global Change Office) to understand performance, drive strategic decision-making, and engage teams in our digital transformation

The team covers:Strategic Planning | Mergers and Acquisitions | Defining KPI and Goals | Exec Reporting | Support to Major Transformation Programmes

Accountabilities

We are looking for a Strategy Manager for Technology and Global Operations. This will involve the facilitation of the strategic planning process for Technology and Global Operations, and the setting and monitoring of objectives, metrics, and across the CTOO group.

Planning & Delivery

  • Outline Technology and Global Operations strategic planning process, timelines, and templates

  • Deliver high quality, on-time, agreed 2018-21 Strategic Plan ( ongoing annual process)

  • Facilitate governance reviews and sign-off of strategic plans and themes

  • Partner with Finance as required to support delivery of 2018-21 financial forecasts

Interface and stakeholder management

  • Align to Chief Strategy Office and feedback Technology and Global Operations strategic drivers / asks of the CSO from the virtual strategy team

  • Build networks and key interface points to other business functions including Product, geos and Enabling Functions

  • Coordinate Technology and Global Operations virtual team - define, mobilise and maintain engagement and output

  • Identify similar strategy work taking place in other functions and manage consolidation of efforts to a single strategic goal

External best practice and benchmarking

  • Leverage insights, research and relationships with internal and external partners and analysts (e.g. Gartner) to access key trends, KPIs and themes for Technology and Global Operations and to define the comparison of Pearson to industry leaders (legacy companies and digital first) - research, networking

Strategy marketing & tracking

  • Partnering with the communications team to market and roadshow our strategy across the year

  • Support the development and delivery (led by comms) of a strategy communication plan

  • Manage and track KPIs to track our strategic progress across Technology and Global Operations

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • Ideally a proven experience in strategic planning role in a large complex global environment

  • Experience with a technology and/or Business Operations based organisation with understanding of market insights and external best practice

  • Experience working across diverse, global functions to drive delivery, with a results-driven and delivery-focussed approach and attitude - matrix organisaion

  • Passion for research and innovation

  • Highly developed analytical skills and ability to see options and patterns within large volumes to data; ability to translate the external data to a Pearson proposal or long term plan

  • Well-developed stakeholder management skills, and able to interface effectively with senior leaders across functions and facilitate decision-making

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty - priorities and workload likely to change significantly of the course of the year, as opportunities and issues arise. Additionally, we are dealing with questions and problems that are complex and may have no clear solution and entail a degree of risk

  • Advanced Word, Excel and PowerPoint / Google Suite

Abilities

  • Understand the need to be discrete and respect confidentiality at all times

  • Excellent and accurate organisation and planning skills, time management and attention to detail

  • Working across the Pearson organisation, the ability to build strong relationships across both Technology and Operations is essential

  • Able to work autonomously and with self-confidence, without a team beneath you

  • Good interpersonal, stakeholder management skills, network building, and effective articulation of ideas and concepts is essential

  • Enthusiastic approach to problem solving

Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor's degree

  • Preference to have MBA
