SUMMARY

Responsible for planning & executing the application & infrastructure related investigations, consultation & changes impacting the stability & sustainability of the software systems. Individual will be required to work with dynamic teams that are driven by project delivery goals. Should possess the drive to learn and continuously improve on work performances. Helps and guides the team of engineers towards building quality software products. All individuals will be required to participate in periodic appraisal cycles to evaluate and determine advancement opportunities.

Pearson Lanka is currently seeking an Associate Technical Specialist (Infrastructure) who will be responsible for

  • Provide realistic estimates for his and his team tasks and achieve On-time Delivery.

  • Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact with prompt and professionalism to the teams across different time zones.

  • Efficient communication of issues/risks/concerns to leads, architects or managers.

  • Evaluates the system infrastructure of the software products & identify the problems & the optimization opportunities in the different layers of the application stack.

  • Work with the product engineering teams, architecture & technical operations teams on rectifying infrastructure level problems & implementing the enhancements identified.

  • Drive root cause analysis of the application & infrastructure related incidents & identify remediation actions related to application & infrastructure.

  • Understand & drive process improvements related to the quality of the infrastructure & application related changes impacting the availability & other NFRs of the systems.

  • Work with maintenance teams and contribute gathered knowledge when requested to do so.

  • Follows the Pearson processes, agile practices and motivates his/her team members to do so.

  • Makes optimum utilization of engineering tools and technologies to maintain a high productivity level in the team.

  • Able to drive technology competencies for the organization including initiatives / task force activities.

  • Accept project delivery responsibilities and demonstrate accountability to leadership.

  • Build competencies in product and technology domain to set expectations.

Qualifications

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Linux/Unix and Windows administration experience in managing complex platforms of medium to large-scale enterprise and application systems with high-availability requirements.

  • Experience on working with multiple cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, vCloud Director, OpenStack etc.

  • Experience working with NAS’s and SAN’s.

  • Experience working with popular virtualization technologies (Vmware, Hyper-V, etc.)

  • Experience using popular scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell etc.).

  • Experience administering Web Servers (Apache, Tomcat, Oracle/BEA WebLogic, IIS etc.)

  • Experience working with software and hardware load balancers (F5,HAProxy, NGINX etc.)

  • Sound knowledge in networking/distributed computing environment concepts.

  • Sound analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience in performance optimization and tuning will be an advantage.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / MIS, Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or equivalent qualification together with minimum of five (5) years of experience in systems engineering and design is preferred

  • Sound knowledge in the following areas related to Amazon Web Services - EC2, S3, Cloudfront, Route 53, VPC, ELB/ALB, Autoscaling, CloudWatch etc.

  • Linux/Unix and Windows administration experience in managing complex platforms of medium to large-scale enterprise and application systems with high-availability requirements.

  • Experience working with popular virtualization technologies (Vmware, Hyper-V, etc.) and scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell etc.).

  • Experience administering Web Servers (Apache, Tomcat, Oracle/BEA WebLogic, IIS etc.) and the working knowledge with software and hardware load balancers (F5,HAProxy, NGINX etc.)
