The Multimedia Artist (MM) is responsible for the creation of artwork based on a description received from Content Development, vendors or item writers. The MM may also create and edit animations using Adobe After Effects, capture and edit video using Adobe After Effects and Quicktime Pro 7 or Premiere, capture and edit Audio. The MM may/will also be expected to apply advanced revisions to artwork that they themselves may have created, but also artwork that other artists may have rendered. The MM is responsible for following all quality check processes and procedures relative to technical construction and style. The MM will be expected to work on several projects adhering to strict specifications. This includes fonts, image sizing, style (look and feel), and all other requirements contained within the Project Specific Style Guide. The MM will be expected to work on numerous state projects, at various stages during the development cycle.

This person will also perform project management activities approximately 20-35 percent of their work week. These activities include attending Project Meetings, updating status information, assisting with scheduling and assisting with issue resolution when required. The MM is required to gain a broader understanding of content/test development and publishing activities, where to access critical project related information, and details so that proper prioritization of work types and project needs can be assessed. Strong communication, both written and verbal is essential to this position in order to effectively update project team members on changes found during the item/art development cycle.

This position generally is tasked with a wide variety of artwork types and levels of difficulty. Including, but not limited to; simple graphs, charts, scatter plots, basic line art including simple shapes (30-60 percent, 80 percent template work). More complex rendering of three dimensional images, scenes, storyboards, figure rendering, animals, scientifically correct images, and geological scenes (25-40 percent, 40 percent template work). Artist must me able to render black and white, grayscale, and full color artwork.

The Multimedia artist may/will from time-to-time be asked to assist in other areas of the test development and publishing during non-peak periods based on qualifications.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience:

BFA from an accredited four-year college specializing in illustration, graphic design/fine art, digital web design or graduate of an art school or equivalent design work experience preferred.

Experience in education, large-scale educational assessment, and especially item development related artwork, is highly desired.

Two (2) years minimum of educational based publishing, and/or graphic arts/design required.

Skills:

Must have solid experience and familiarity with a Macintosh and Adobe CC Suites including Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, After Effects, Premiere and Photoshop.

Ability to create illustrative (fine art), using traditional techniques as well as computer based tools highly desired.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Must have strong, results oriented, professional verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work concurrently on multiple projects with challenging deadlines. Some project management experience, including the scheduling and management of multiple projects is required.

Must be able to work closely with multiple people or teams to coordinate and track item and art development activities.

Must be able to efficiently and effectively manage the acquisition of art, graphics, and other stimuli from numerous sources, including but not limited to contracted artists, art development sub-contractors, graphics design shops, etc.

Must be proficient in working in an electronic workflow and production environment.

Ability to adapt to unforeseen and unexpected requests or changes in priorities.

Experience in computer based animation and technology desired.

Understanding of web publishing with HTML and XML is desired.

Render two and three-dimensional vector images such as people, scenery, animals, buildings, and situational artwork using Adobe Illustrator within budgeted time allotments.

Creation and editing of animations using Adobe After Effects.

Capturing and editing of video using Adobe After Effects, Quicktime Pro 7, or Premiere

Capturing and editing of Audio

Familiar with several file types such as svg, svgz, mp3, m4a, ogg.

Create artwork that matches the requested description/concept that is in compliance with project specific style and technical requirements.

Apply simple to complex edits to artwork following written instructions.

Work with a team of artist to create artwork for print and online deployment. Artwork must be delivered on time and meet quality standards as defined within the department.

Perform as lead or backup for assigned projects, providing oversight, support, metrics, evaluation of quality, etc, providing updates to team members as needed.

Maintain all tracking and project metrics per business or customer requirements; develop process documentation or assist in the development of documentation, as required.

Maintain a detailed understanding of multiple item development (proprietary) systems and project specific workflows and electronic folder structures.

Maintain a high level of communication with artist colleagues and project members across numerous teams through e-mail, teleconferences, 1:1 conversations, project meetings and notes.

Understand escalation process and keep the department manager informed on daily project status or issues.

Work independently, quality check all work to ensure highest possible quality output, and be open and receptive to actionable feedback when provided.
